OFSS 2023 lineup

We are delighted to announce our fabulous line up of teachers for OFSS 2023, including a special visit from Adam Walker, principal flute of the London Symphony Orchestra. Robert Winn will return for his 14th year to lead the Masterclass option. Robert has over 50 students placed in orchestral positions around the world, an unsurpassed success rate from his teaching at the Köln Musik Hochschule. Sue Thomas will be joining us for the first time this year and we welcome her warmly. Sue has a successful career as professor of flute at the London College of Music and sub-principal flute with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Good to be back: Oxford Flute Summer School 2021

We did it! We had a wonderful week at Radley in August - despite all the uncertainty more than 30 flute players joined us for a week of playing, performing, making friends and - at last - live music. It was a very special week. Thank you to everyone who participated. Thank you to all our marvellous teachers - Robert Winn successfully negotiated the travel restrictions and ever-changing covid testing procedures to be with us in person for the whole week. Robert Manasse, Carrie Hensel, Emma Halnan, Sally Goodworth, Richard Shaw and Hayley Tull worked their magic with our participants, and Kate Hill and Lorna McGhee joined us via zoom for special sessions during the week. We hope to see you all again in 2022!

Lorna McGhee to join us in 2021!

We are delighted to announce that Lorna McGhee, Principal Flute with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, will be joining us at OFSS in 2021. Lorna has long been on our list of flautists we would love to welcome to OFSS, and we are very much looking forward to her being part of our fabulous team of flute players at Radley College in August 2021.

OFSS Seminars 2020

Three free OFSS Seminars 2020 took place online 16-18 August, and were a great success. Robert Winn, Kate Hill and Robert Manasse did a wonderful job with our zoom attendees, who listened intently to their welcome advice, thoughts and tips. Practising will never be the same again having listened to Robert M's unique take on stocking our flute 'store cupboards' with a wealth of ingredients and techniques, using three elements: the skills of an athlete, the mind of a thinker and the heart of an artist. Kate reminded us of the music, finding your best 'happy' flute sound and not letting it go, while Robert W offered his interpretation on how to continue playing and teaching in the current covid-19 crisis, reminding us to listen to music, to bathe in the great sound of a symphony every day - importantly, via loud speakers!
